The Pampan Railway Bridge in Rameswaram is 104 years old. The bridge was built in 1914 and has been converted into a broad gauge in 2006. Recently, the Rameshwaram trains have been stopped to Mandapam due to the crack occurred in the lift bridge.
In this situation, the Railway Ministry has announced a new railway bridge at the cost of Rs 250 crore instead of the Pamban Bridge. The inspection work has been completed. Now, the new bridge will be constructed near the old bridge with an additional height of 3 meters above it.
At the same time, 2 ships can pass this bridge. This lift bridge is being built into automotive which opens and closes in vertical mode. This The new bridge constitutes a dual rail track. The construction work of this bridge begins on next month.
